Objective

I am studying music to become proficient as a performer, teacher, composer and arranger of various musical styles, particularly jazz and afro-cuban.  I hope to use these skills to become successful as a working artist in the music industry.

Work experience

1996-Present- Have studied saxophone privately with Dino Govoni, Bill Pierce, Frank Tiberi, George Garzone, Shannon LeClaire,  Andy McGhee, Greg Osby and Joe Lovano.

2001- Traveled to Cuba to study the folkloric and popular styles of Cuban music. Studied batá drums and percussion with Grupo AfroCuba de Matanzas, Andrei “Negron” Miranda of Irakere, and others.

1996 - Present               Professional Musician                     Boston, MA

o        Acting as a bandleader and multi-instrumentalist, dealing with clients and managing finances. Playing functions such as weddings, birthday parties, political galas, etc all over the New England Area. Also playing clubs and bars in the Boston area. Performing on any of the following instruments: All saxophones, flute,  voice, drum set, batá drums, congas, minor percussion, guitar, bass.

o        2002 Jazz Quintet Japan Tour- Toured Japan from May to June with Berklee faculty member Makoto Takenaka. Played many high profile concerts along with elementary and junior high schools. Taught group music lessons and workshops throughout Kumamoto Prefecture.  This tour was followed by a two week tour with the Hiro Saito quartet that traveled throughout Kyushu then to Kyoto for a “sister city” concert sponsored by the mayor’s offices of Boston and Kyoto. Finished with 2 concerts in Tokyo. 

o        In 2003 and ’04 have returned to Japan for subsequent tours with local musicians. Cities include Nagoya, Tokyo, Yokohama, Kagoshima and Miyazaki.

o        Arranging for high school bands and other ensembles- Have sold my original arrangements(score and parts) to local high schools.

o        Teaching Private Lessons for Jazz and Saxophone

o        Professionally recorded a 4-song demo with group Standard Deviation, co-led with guitarist Hironobu Saito. Has been played on Ron Della Chiesa’s Jazz America WGBH,MA; WRNX,MA; WXYC,NC; and in Lublin, Poland.

o        2004 Jon De Lucia Trio – Performances every week at Brasserie Jo Restaurant in Boston. Sax, bass, drums trio performing originals and standards.

o        Teaching saxophones, flute, and clarinet to students of all ages, all levels.  Communicating with students’ parents, working with students to find their weaknesses and focus on them.

o        Teaching a variety of classes including Music, English, Art, Foreign Language, Math, and Science. Taught from lesson plans, or used my own material. Worked with children ages 10-18.

o        Duties included upgrading and regularly maintaining Macintosh computer systems. Also installed new audio equipment throughout the school, worked with teachers to meet their needs, and updated software constantly.

o        Duties included cleaning and refurbishing mostly wind instruments. Also assisted in repairing a variety of instruments through soldering and other more advanced techniques.
