Bach Shapes II Press Release

BACH SHAPES II RELEASES ON May 25, 2021

April 25, 2021 New York, NYBach Shapes II: Exercises in Bach for Treble Clef Instruments is the third major release in the Bach Shapes series, following the release of Bach Shapes: The Etudes in March of 2021.  A compendium of Bach for all treble clef instruments, the book includes 150 pages of scale and interval patterns from Bach’s music along with harmonic analysis, jazz applications, etudes and more. It will be released in paperback, Kindle, and PDF ebook on May 25 on jondelucia.com and amazon.com.

“Four years in the making, Bach Shapes II takes the concept of using Bach’s melodic shapes for instrumental practice to a new level. I’ve included much more in the direction of jazz improvisation, so you can learn how to apply the shapes to standard progressions. Transcription examples from great jazz players like Paul Desmond, Charlie Parker and Cannonball Adderley help illustrate the connections between Bach’s music and jazz.  On top of that there is still plenty to work with on a technical level, including articulation work, tricky intervals and more.” – Jon De Lucia, author.

The author is a saxophone player and is writing from that perspective, but the books have become popular with all instrumentalists as a means to make one’s daily practice more musical. Throughout 2020 De Lucia has been sharing tutorials on this subject on his Youtube Channel, youtube.com/c/jondelucia, along with blog posts and other social media.

Bach Shapes has been praised and used by such player educators as Andrew Sterman (Phillip Glass Ensemble), Lincoln Goines, Walt Weiskopf, Miguel Zenon, Dino Govoni, Caroline Davis, Dana Colley (Morphine) and has been sold at Roberto’s Winds, Boston Sax Shop, Groth Music, Jamey Aebersold Music and more.

Preorders for print and PDF start May 10th at jondelucia.com/shop and Kindle and print will go on sale on Amazon on May 25th.
