JON DE LUCIA’S LUCE TRIO CELEBRATES NEW ALBUM RELEASE AT ST. PAUL’S CHAPEL ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2023
Brooklyn-based saxophonist Jon De Lucia celebrates his fifth release as a leader with a concert at the historic St. Paul’s Chapel of Trinity Church at 209 Broadway, across from the Oculus. The concert will take place on Wednesday, September 27th at 6pm and will be free and open to the public. St. Paul’s Chapel was built in 1766, and is home to the popular Jazz at One free music series among others.
De Lucia’s new album is his first to feature his clarinet playing. His group, The Luce Trio, previously focused on Early Music in a jazz setting, from Machaut to Bach and Handel. The new album, and the stars were shining, features a more varied repertoire, from Puccini to Brubeck. Writer Michael Steinman says “the Luce Trio is a beautifully balanced egalitarian affair, with all three players creating ethereal dances, structures, and conversations.”

Jon De Lucia is a Brooklyn based saxophonist/clarinetist and composer. Originally from Quincy, MA, Jon has become an integral part of the New York scene. Predominantly a student of jazz, he also has a deep interest in the folkloric music and instruments of Cuba, Japan, Ireland and Italy, having performed on a variety of ethnic flutes, drums and stringed instruments. Jon has led his groups and played as a sideman in Boston, New York and all over Japan with such musicians as Bill Crow, Michael Kanan, David Tronzo, Bob Moses, John Lockwood, Billy Mintz, Steve Little, Putter Smith and Thomas Morgan. He leads the Jon De Lucia Group, and the baroque improvising Luce Trio. As a musicologist he has published in the Jazz Research Journal, and has released a series of books, Bach Shapes, for saxophone. He has released five records as a leader and continues to compose, perform and teach full time at the Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York City.
