Shapeshifter Lab and The Greene Space

On Sunday, March 17,  the Luce Trio will be playing at Shapeshifter Lab in Gowanus Brooklyn, for the first time. It’s a great new venue that I’ve really enjoyed going to in the last couple of months. We’ll be trying some new material, including excerpts from the Bach Harpsichord Concerto, Sleepers Awake and Handel’s Delirio Amoroso.

Then, on March 23rd, we will be performing a short set of JS Bach on New York’s classical station, WQXR 105.9, at the Greene Space in Tribeca. The night will also feature Dave Douglas playing chorales, Ethan Iverson interpreting some inventions and Gabe Kahane exploring various repertoire, all as a special event focusing on modern interpretations of Bach’s music. Very excited for this one!

Sycamore, Burlington, Korzo

We had a great show with the Luce Trio at Sycamore on Saturday. The music is getting freer every time, and paradoxically more focused. As a bonus we were featured as one of the top 5 music picks of the week before the show in Timeout NY:

There is also more press and music now available on the Luce Trio tab above.

I am excited to announce that we are going to perform at the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival 2013 on June 8th, and will be performing around the area that week.  We will also be back at Sycamore on April 27th, and at the Village Zendo on June 14th. See the shows page for more details.

On another note, it was amazing to see so many musicians last night at Korzo, a bar off the beaten path in the South Slope, for Matt Pavolka and Pete Rende’s groups. There must have been 200 people there on a tuesday night. The music was amazing, and it was inspiring to see so many people, and so many great musicians, in one place for a show. Thanks to James Carney for keeping the series going.

Album news and shows

I am to happy to say The Luce Trio album was picked as one of the top albums of the year by Mark Saleski over at Something Else Jazz Reviews. Please visit our Bandcamp page over at lucetrio.bandcamp.com to pick up a copy. I still have some of the letter pressed edition left.
Our next performance will be January 26th, back at Sycamore Bar and Flowershop. Playing before us this time will be Denver General, featuring Kirk Knuffke, Jonathan Goldberger and Jeff Davis. Please join us! In the meantime have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Background Music Special Last Minute Show

My two horn group will be performing at Cubana Social this Friday the 10th of August with a very special rhythm section. Bassist Murray Wall and drummer Taro Okamoto have played with many of the greats: Warne Marsh, Benny Goodman, Hank Jones and many more. We are fortunate to have them join us for three sets of standards this friday. Tenorist Kyle Wilson will be on the night as well! Cubana Social is located at 70 North 6th St. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We will play from 8:30 to 11:30, no cover. See you then!
